Jannie's five decades with Afrikaans music. With Susan Mouton (cello) and Chanie Jonker (piano and accordion)

The comprehensive title under which Jannie celebrates his half-century is also the name of the stage production that sums up highlights from his career as a songwriter and recording artist. The programme is presented with his regular ensemble of Susan Mouton (cello) and Chanie Jonker (piano and accordion) and the programme consists exclusively of Afrikaans songs that Jannie has recorded somewhere over the past five decades: songs by Jannie and his friends.
Jannie gives the audience a look at the destinations his music journey has taken him over the past half century: from a ladies' residence series under our own stars to the Northern Lights on Saskatoon, from the Pierneef Theatre in Pretoria to a guitar festival on the banks of the Volga. The physical but also the symbolic destinies are often embodied in his own lyrics, but in this production he also determines the musings of other songwriters about their heartbeats and dreams - as he has been doing for decades.
With his brilliant accompanying ensemble of Susan and Chanie, with his guitar, Jannie, thanks to his mature experience, exceptional vocal abilities and a repertoire with a very wide variety, ensures a production in which emotions constantly rock and artistic integrity prevails. No audience member will be able to walk out of this presentation untouched.
  • 50% of venue capacity will be utilised
  • Sanitising station at venue entrance: hand sanitiser, temperature will be measured and contact details recorded
  • Posters with health & safety protocols on display in the theatre
  • Hand sanitiser in all bathrooms
  • Social distancing maintained
  • Compulsory wearing of masks
