INTERNATIONAL BIG BAND FESTIVAL 2023

The Jazz Foundation of South Africa is back with another thrilling edition of a uniquely South African fusion of traditional jazz and indigenous African sounds. The 2023 prestigious instalment will be hosted on 17 and 18 February 2023, Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City Casino.

Famous for its star-studded and spectacular line-up, 2023 presentation will see the magical Big Band headlined by the great and multi Grammy winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Standard Bank Young Artist Award and SAMA Award recipient jazz pianist Bokani Dyer. These talents promises two amazing days of a music spectacle for patrons of jazz and indigenous music.

The Foundation is a non-profit organisation formed in 1983 with a purpose to preserve, present and promote South African jazz and other local genres. Over the years it has created the most exciting, unique and unthinkable concepts of great live music. In the past, some of the most brilliant presentations for the big band concerts included Zim Ngqawana, Madala Kunene, Yusef Lateef, Joyous Celebration, Rufus Reid, Simphiwe Dana, Mankunku Ngozi, Sibongile Khumalo, Bob Mintzer, Caiphus Semenya, Judith Sephuma, Bheki Mseleku, Stefon Harris, Gloria Bosman, Howard Johnson to name but a few all performing with the big band orchestra and this year's festival continues that signature tradition of a great line-up.

The Foundation's CEO, Oupa Salemane says "In a time of recovery for cultural and creative industries, this festival continues to play its part in creating job opportunities for our creatives. We are unrelenting in consolidating our organisation's vision to protect our musical heritage through the creation of musical partnerships with a huge potential to change the way we consume and appreciate our rich heritage. We are excited to invite you to this year's festival"

Tickets are R350 at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers.
