MONDAY MUSIC - Victor Sithole
Victor Gabela Sithole a Multi-instrumentalist who combines Western and African instruments more especially Zulu indigenous instruments. Who sometimes celebrate indigenous music and culture with a crossover into Jazz and he calls his genre 'Indi jazz'. He started playing Udloko at the age of seven and was mentored by his mother and uncle. He has performed in places like Denmark, Australia, Italy, and England to mention a few. He has also collaborated with artists from South Africa and overseas including the likes of Madala Kunene, Gcina Mhlophe, Sazi Dlamini, Jose & Mehu (Brazil) and Aborigines (Australia). Sithole is the 2021 UKZN Andrew Mellon Foundation Artist-in-Residence in the African Music and Dance Program (AMD)
Victor Sithole will play Hand Pan, Udloko, Umnqangala, Inhlali as well as Umzaneno, Harmonica, Bass and Vocals. He will be joined by Matshitshi Ngema on guitar, Ngungu and Vocals as well as Mandla Mgabhi on Percussion and vocals.
