Indigenous African tribes have a long oral history of using animals' character traits to define and name their tribes. The idea of a last name in an African context, details a long history of four-fathers' names, triumphs and their relationship with nature. It has become apparent that this mode of identification, is unique to indigenous cultures. Circular or western culture provides a contrast to this method of identification. This project seeks to explore and offer a sonic representation of work that is informed by the indigenous modes of identification. The project is geared towards sonically telling the story of those tribes that are identified by their nomadic way of life. iPungutsha/the fox is one of the names that have named some of the Ndebele tribes. These tribes that are named iPungutsha are nomadic groups of people that move, adapt and establish themselves gracefully in the spaces they occupy. Diaspora, is also included in this description. In essence the music that will be presented by this project will be original work and featured composers that the Ndebele people coined iPungutsha.
