CAPE TOWN CITY BALLET presents the quintessential boy-meets-girl tale, penned by the playwright, William Shakespeare, tracing the life course of the ill-fated, star-crossed lovers, Romeo & Juliet.

Set in the beautiful Italian city of Verona, Veronica Paeper's ballet explores an enduring story of young love and tragedy known to many generations, woven together by multiple themes that inhabit the narrative - a tapestry of life from the bud of youth, the blooming of adulthood, hidden forbidden love, a suffocating family feud, visceral hatred and inevitable tragic destiny.

Romeo & Juliet juxtaposes fate & free will, light versus dark, history versus the present, language versus reality. Among the Capulet family the mention of the name "Montague" ignites prejudice & hatred ... an impetus for revenge and violence - a provocative sentiment that questions.... "What's in a name?"

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet..."

The CAPE TOWN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA appears at select performances. Superb international guest artists alongside the dynamic dancers of the CTCB for select performances
